I want to be a nurse

I want to be in the army

No I want to be the first black woman president

I have a dream to lead

All my people to freedom

I want to be the next Nikki Giovanni

Of my time

I want to be a strong black woman

Who doesn’t need a man

To run her life

Because behind every man is

A strong woman

I want to build an empire

Out of a nation

How I made these dreams

And yet known will

Ever come true

Because of my sophomoric

Ways

I am a diffident girl

No power for speech

I have no visions

But breams,

My childhood dreams
